Project Overview

Renewable Energy Made Accessible

In partnership with the United States Solar Corporation (US Solar), a developer, owner, operator, and financier of solar generation and storage projects with a focus on emerging markets and community solar programs, National Trust Energy Capital made an equity investment in a portfolio of community solar projects across New Mexico.

Once operational, the installations will generate renewable energy on sites historically used as vacant, agricultural, grazing, or otherwise undeveloped land, while delivering long term savings to participating community members.

Impacts

Environmental Sustainability

The 22.2 MW installations will generate an estimated 51.6 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) annually, which:

6,500 Homes Annually

Creates enough electricity to power nearly 6,500 homes each year.

33 Million Pounds of Coal

Offsets CO2 emissions generated from burning nearly 33 million pounds of coal annually.

29,000 Acres of Forest

Sequesters the same amount of carbon from the atmosphere as over 29,000 acres of forest.

3.5 Million Gallons of Gasoline

Offsets the CO2 emissions generated from 3.5 million gallons of gasoline annually

Community Solar in Action

The five ground mounted community solar projects will add approximately 22.2 MW of solar capacity across Hidalgo, Luna, Doña Ana, and Valencia Counties in central and southwestern New Mexico. The energy credits will serve commercial and industrial customers representing 48% of project output, as well as a broad portfolio of residential customers representing the remaining 52%. The residential allocation is expected to serve primarily low- and moderate-income households, exceeding New Mexico’s 40% program requirement. These households are expected to receive a 28% discount on their community solar bill credits, helping make clean energy more accessible while delivering meaningful household savings. Commercial and institutional subscribers, including municipalities, schools, and community organizations, are expected to receive significant savings.

All five projects are expected to qualify for federal Energy Community and Low-Income Communities incentives, reflecting both their locations in qualifying energy communities and their commitment to delivering more than half of the financial benefits from the electricity generated to qualifying low-income households. The projects are also supporting local participation through US Solar’s partnership with Sol Luna Solar, a New Mexico based contractor overseeing construction.
