Learn More About The 2025 Summit
The Historic Preservation Finance Summit 2025 is more than an event—it’s a movement. Set in the heart of the nation’s capital, this year’s summit brings together professionals from across the country to explore how historic preservation can unlock economic growth, empower communities, and support sustainability.
The two-day experience will kick off on Wednesday, September 17th with a welcome reception at the historic Octagon House. Thursday is dedicated to sessions, panels, and networking, while Friday offers small group roundtables, hands-on workshops, and an optional walking tour of successful DC redevelopment projects. These tracks were developed in response to attendee feedback requesting more targeted content and opportunities for peer exchange within specific roles and interest areas.

Each day is carefully curated to balance learning and connection. You’ll dive into topics ranging from tax equity trends to innovative financing tools for rural and underserved markets. With breakout sessions tailored for developers, public agencies, and investors, there’s something for everyone—whether you’re funding your first project or your fiftieth.
Washington, D.C. provides the perfect backdrop for this national summit. With its rich architectural legacy and evolving urban fabric, the city mirrors the opportunities and challenges facing preservationists today. Plus, it’s easily accessible by air, train, or car, making it an ideal central hub.
Building on the success of last year’s breakout sessions—which sparked some of the Summit’s most dynamic conversations—this year’s event expands its programming with four newly introduced event tracks, each designed to offer deeper engagement and more tailored learning
Last year’s summit was described as “the most valuable three days of my professional year,” by Jessica Morales, Managing Director of Urban Capital Group. “It’s the one event I won’t miss. The conversations, the connections, the clarity—it’s where things happen.”
Lively breakout discussions during last year’s Summit focused on equity and inclusion in preservation finance
experiences. These tracks were developed in response to attendee feedback requesting more targeted content and opportunities for peer exchange within specific roles and interest areas. Whether you’re a seasoned investor, a public-sector leader, or just beginning your career in preservation finance, you’ll find a path that speaks directly to your goals.
The new tracks include:
- Capital & Community: Dive into the delicate balance of maximizing returns while creating meaningful, place-based impact. Sessions will cover community-centered development, funding models for marginalized areas, and how to align financial strategy with long-term civic benefit.
- Design & Adaptive Reuse: Explore how architectural heritage can be a catalyst for innovation. This track features case studies of complex adaptive reuse projects, green retrofitting, and creative solutions for blending old and new.
- Policy & Practice: Navigate the evolving policy landscape with experts on tax credit legislation, compliance, and implementation. You’ll gain insight into state and federal updates, cross-sector collaborations, and advocacy strategies that can directly influence your next project.
- Emerging Leaders: Aimed at professionals early in their preservation or finance journey, this track includes mentorship roundtables, hands-on workshops, and career guidance from industry veterans eager to cultivate the next generation of changemakers.
