Written By: NTCIC

At NTCIC’s October 2021 Board of Directors meeting, Ms. Lauri Michel was unanimously elected as incoming Chair, succeeding Mr. Bruce Block. Since its founding in 2001, NTCIC’s governing board has provided strategic and risk management oversight and supports NTCIC’s national community development investment priorities, especially in underserved communities.

Bruce Block was elected to the NTCIC Board in 2008 and served as Chair from 2018-2021. He previously served as Chair of the Investment Committee. As Chair, Bruce oversaw NTCIC’s growth in historic preservation and renewable energy investments as NTCIC made its largest investments ever in early 2021. Today, NTCIC has more than $1 billion of assets under management. Bruce also provided invaluable guidance and support as NTCIC navigated the challenges and market disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic. An accomplished real estate attorney, Bruce has worked at Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren in Milwaukee, WI, for 42 years and is active in local historic and preservation efforts. Bruce holds a J.D., magna cum laude, from Boston University School of Law and a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He will remain an At Large member of the Executive Committee until October 2022. NTCIC wishes to express its gratitude to Bruce for his many years of service to the Board of Directors. His contributions to both the industry and to NTCIC are many and deeply appreciated.

Lauri Michel was elected to the NTCIC Board in 2008 and has served on the Investment Committee and was previously Chair of the Audit, Risk, and Finance Committee. Lauri is Vice President, Risk Management & Special Projects at Calvert Capital, where she manages credit and enterprise risk and IT infrastructure and services. Before joining Calvert, Lauri worked at KEMA Advisors, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, CIBC, and was Deputy Commissioner for the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development.

NTCIC President Merrill Hoopengardner said, “I am delighted to have Lauri at the helm as NTCIC emerges from one of its most challenging periods. I know Lauri has the deep industry knowledge, connections, and expertise to lead NTCIC to new levels of impact and success.”

Also during the October 2021 meeting, the NTCIC Board of Directors unanimously elected Elaine DiPietro, CPA, as a new board member for a three-year term. Elaine is the Founder of Blooming Ventures LLC, a New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) consulting firm that provides services to project sponsors and community development entities. Previously, Elaine was vice president for Enterprise Community Investment, Inc., managing all facets of Enterprise’s NMTC program. She is a frequent speaker at NMTC industry conferences and has published articles in industry journals. Elaine will serve as Vice-Chair of the Audit, Risk, and Finance Committee and as a member of the Investment Committee. Elaine graduated with honors from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

NTCIC welcomes Elaine and her expertise to the Board of Directors.
